Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A round of betting follows where players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where some entrants get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in just about every poker game.

The lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.

Although it seems complex at the start, following a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of play easily enough. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming assortment of betting options and seeing that you have many individuals battling for the high, and many trying for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha/8.
